Tejeda Middle School

Welcome to Tejeda

Welcome to Frank M. Tejeda Middle School, home of the Timberwolves. At Tejeda, we believe middle school should give students opportunities to discover new interests, challenge themselves, and become increasingly confident and independent.

Our campus is committed to excellence in academics, fine arts, athletics, leadership, and personal growth. Through engaging classroom instruction, hands-on experiences, extracurricular opportunities, and strong partnerships with families, students are encouraged to participate fully in their middle school experience and discover where their strengths can take them.

What Makes Tejeda Special

Learning Comes to Life

Some of Tejeda’s most memorable learning happens beyond the traditional classroom. History Hill, our outdoor learning environment, gives students opportunities to experience history through hands-on spaces and activities designed to encourage curiosity, reasoning, problem-solving, and collaboration. The space also brings our community together through traditions such as the annual History Faire & Culture Fest.

Excellence in Every Direction

Students are encouraged to pursue their highest potential, whether their interests are in academics, fine arts, athletics, leadership, or extracurricular activities. Tejeda provides opportunities for Timberwolves to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and experience different facets of middle school life.

Growing as Learners and Leaders

Tejeda challenges students to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, technical skills, and responsible citizenship. As students become more independent, they are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, contribute to their community, and develop the confidence to take on new challenges.

Once a T-Wolf, Always a T-Wolf

A strong sense of community is an important part of the Tejeda experience. Students, educators, families, and community members work together to support learning and create an environment where students feel connected. Student Ambassadors also help welcome new Timberwolves and make the transition into the Tejeda community easier.

Our Namesake

Frank M. Tejeda

Frank Tejeda was born in San Antonio, Texas. He attended St. Leo´s Catholic School and Harlandale H.S. From 1963 to 1967, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was wounded in action while serving in Vietnam. In 1970, he graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. Frank Tejeda received a J.D. degree in 1974 from the University of California School of Law at Berkeley and was admitted to the bar. He served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1976 to 1987, and in the Texas Senate from 1987 to 1993. He continued his education while serving in the State Legislature. While there he received an M.A. in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1980, and an LL.M. from Yale University School of Law in 1989.

In 1992, Frank Tejeda was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas´ 28th District with 87% of the vote. In Congress, he continued his support of issues affecting veterans, as he did earlier in the Texas Legislature, where he supported bills to build housing for veterans. In his first term in Congress, he was assigned to the Armed Services and Veterans´ Affairs Committees.

Congressman Frank Tejeda died on January 30, 1997, after battling brain cancer for more than a year. He was buried with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. At least 60 members of Congress were among those who filled the church. Texas National Guard F-16s flew in the missing man formation over the gravesite of the San Antonio Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.

Tejeda History Hill

History Hill is the outdoor learning area on the Tejeda Middle School campus. It began shortly after the school opened its doors in 2001 and has grown with the help of students, staff, parents, and other volunteers. Its naming and funds raised for its success have all been accomplished by Tejeda students.

History Hill was created with the aim of encouraging our students to experience learning in a 'hands-on' environment. This is where they can come sit inside a genuine teepee while learning all about Native Americans, or sit around a campfire next to the chuck wagon learning all about the cattle drives of long ago. Archeological dig boxes, Roman garden, prehistoric stone circles, and medieval stocks are some other centers that are used as beginning points for learning about the past.

History Hill is used by many other subject areas as it has two outside classrooms and a performance stage. Learning comes in many forms and History Hill has been found to offer students a place to hone their reasoning and deductive skills as well as encourage them to develop self-discipline and self-confidence. Problem-solving is a priority as they have learned to use their bodies as well as their minds by putting up the teepee or by building the cedar fence.

Please support our students' future efforts as they strive to improve History Hill.
